Google Ads Cross-domain tracking —Google Tag Manager & Conversion Linker

Old tutorial updated!

So a little while ago I made this tutorial on Google Ads cross-domain funnels focusing especially on the conversion linker tag which handles the Google click ID and stores it as a cookie so we can do conversion tracking. For the cross-domain funnels, people were curious if you need the same or different Google Tag Manager container on both sides — so I made a new video to answer that question also.

The answer seems to be NO.

I have run tests, and cross-domain conversion linking does NOT require the same GTM on both sites. It seems to work perfectly with two websites, both of which have a different GTM container. I'm 99% sure the first website must have a conversion linker with a cross-domain setup which decorates your links from site A to site B.

My testing indicates the second site seems to work even without cross-domain setup in its conversion linking — but I would still add it to play it safe.
